Green waste in Christchurch: what can go together

Keep green clean
Leaves, lawn clippings, hedge trimmings and small branches can go together when the pile is free of household rubbish and soil. A woolsack of leaves, a stack of branches cut to manageable lengths, and a bag of lawn clippings — that’s a straightforward green load. Soil, stones and construction offcuts are better kept out; they add weight and suit a different channel.
Cut and contain
Cut long branches so they stack. Bag loose leaves on windy days — Christchurch nor’westers move them quickly. Keep thorny material wrapped or on top so it’s obvious to the crew.
