Declutter first: a 30-minute sweep before rubbish day
You don’t need a full weekend. A focused 30-minute sweep does most of the work — and makes the rubbish pickup faster and cheaper.
Three-bag walk
Take three bags and walk room to room: keep, rubbish, needs-a-channel. Rubbish is the obvious pile — broken items, tired linen, packaging. Needs-a-channel is e-waste, batteries and anything you’re not sure about — set it aside and ask. Keep stays put. You’ll be surprised how much clears in one circuit.
Start where rubbish collects
Kitchen drawers, the laundry pile, the back of the wardrobe, the garage bench. Those four spots hold most of the delayed decisions. Don’t overthink — if it’s broken, chipped or hasn’t been used in a year, it’s rubbish or donation, not storage.
Stage the pile
Stage rubbish near the door you’ll use for the carry-out. Bag loose items, box small bits, and keep the path clear. For rentals and tenancy changeovers, mark what stays with a quick note so the crew doesn’t guess.
